How to Write a Better CV (UK), or Resume (USA and elsewhere)
The first argument is that the word "resume" and "Resume" (with or without the French acute accents are often on the e) practically interchangeable in the United Kingdom, they mean the same thing, but if anything what the norm is CV. In the United States and elsewhere, the CV (Curriculum Vitae to give it its full title – literally "Life Study") is a different animal – a dry listing of qualifications and experience suitable for a university faculty listing for example.
This brief article byStephen Thompson, Managing Director and CEO of Top Professional Resumes Limited in the United Kingdom (http://www.top-pro-cvs.com) is a brief introduction to the writing of such a document yourself.
It is a fairly obvious truism that a good CV alone will not get a job. However, a bad resume will prevent you from a job interview. Since your resume is primarily a tool for finding a better job or career change, time for adequate preparation is a good investment.
There is room forCreativity, but not for gimmicks. What works today is a professional, business style and a focus on the most important achievements.
We believe that the best way to explain in writing, the "rules" of the CV, is to explain what you do has always been and what should you do before.
Do's:
1. Get your resume always on good quality white or cream / buff paper or parchment. The size should be for the United Kingdom, A4, Letter and size for the U.S., Australia and most other countries and territories. The point is that itshould be the size, the unfolding is a standard file folders or lever arch file suit.
2. Have you submitted your resume or word-processed, with space between paragraphs, and a reasonable profit margins. There is no need to have professionally printed.
3. Use short paragraphs – preferably no more than five or six lines
4. Proof read your resume and cover letter (another essential document) thoroughly to check for any errors, then get to give a second pair of eyes, theonce over. It's amazing how easy it is obvious to miss spelling and other errors when you dipped it in a few hours. Someone else will see it immediately.
5. Add your review on each of your jobs. Enter the more important given more weight.
6. Assign the largest amount of space on your most recent job.
7. List your business with professional associations – but only if they are not unreasonable.
8. Keep a permanent file of yourSuccesses, no matter how trivial they may seem, and they are regularly updated. This will be the source document for a good CV or resume, if you have it themselves or they are written, professionally.
9. Before you ensure for all positions, send each of your referees a copy of your resume.
10. Send a short, personal letter with each resume. This is an absolute must, but the letter The cover letter must be carried out very carefully and is another topic in itself.E-mail (info@top-pro-cvs.com) advice.
11. Send your resume within a week after the position is advertised and specified in each case, within a period.
12. Re-read your CV before the interview as part of final preparations. The probability is high that the interviewers have done, it will be just before he or she sees you, so that is fresh in your head, the better.
Don'ts:
1. Never give a reason for leaving a job. In almost all cases, you can the readernegative connotation, even the best reasons. You are better off to explain in person if you think it appropriate, or, of course, if you're asked.
2. If the subject is never negative language about your former employer, but to emphasize your ambition and desire to pursue a challenging environment.
3. To participate, if you think they need to be mentioned, to say "humanize" your resume, no more than two or three lines to list hobbies, sports and social activities. IfIf in doubt, "not made for them." As a professional writer start again, I would be very rare, they are not at all. I also wish all the other personal information like your partner's career or personal philosophies – they can too easily a reason not to see the exact opposite of your intention!
4. There is no need to 'References available upon request. It is assumed, just so overwhelmed the CV and uses space that could be better used.
5. For the same reason,Never list your CV.
6. Do not give out exact dates. Months and years are sufficient (ie) from May 1998 to December 2002 – always with 4 digits for the year, enter it in its entirety.
7. Never the date you prepared your resume or CV. If you take your search for more than a few months (and can, if you receive will not invest in a professionally written resume of Top Professional Resumes) the document is obsolete and give completely the wrong impression.
8. Never give out your workPhone number, unless your immediate boss knows you're leaving.
9. Never state your personal goals, if they are relevant to the position applied for.
10. Do not use jargon and slang or colloquial terms NIE.
11. Enter any information about the content of CV. Save for the interview, and give only if they are directly asked. If this information is required prior to the call, state it in your cover letter.

What people know they will want to see, and in what format? And what they do not want?
The bulk of this section is really preparing the items listed above do's and don'ts.
The majority of recruiters want to see personal information will appear immediately below the name. Most voters prefer the date of birth to the age, but when you think could be your young age is a problem (for example, or too old), then leave it entirely. A high percentage asto see a few personal details, but they are not generally interested in children's age, religion, or a photo. Also they are interested in for the candidate of their own characteristics. In fact, since these views are entirely subjective, they are often viewed with skepticism, which may have a negative effect.
Virtually all recruiters like to see the details of the training, degrees and professional qualifications. A surprisingly large number are also in the number of interested"O'levels, 'A' levels and GCSE's (UK), or degree and Statistics in the U.S.. Most of them want details of the work of training, particularly courses that are of adequate length and lead to a formal qualification. The inclusion of foreign languages is important at all levels, and this trend is increasing.
Names of employers, dates of employment, dates, and responsibilities are essential, while many recruiters want to include a brief description of the company and itsBusiness. Employment history should be in reverse chronological order, starting with the last point. Tasks and results should be held at each event are listed on a separate sheet.
There is a preference for the two page CV, although a significant number of recruiters on three sides is acceptable to find especially for senior appointments.
