Manchester – Gay Capital of the United Kingdom

Manchester gay village, which is centered around Canal Street, near the Chinese Center, has just made in the popular BBC series "Queer as Folk", when it became the target of the hen and stag parties, making it almost a zoo recovered as featured status. The reason it was chosen as the site is that it quite awhile and is one of the gay party capital of the United Kingdom. There are so many clubs and pubs that there is very little room for something else. Iffreeze of the channel were, they would build at least three clubs on the ice.

Canal Street was once a prosperous city, located next to the Rochdale Canal, but when rail and road, then took over as the preferred method of transport, it became a dark and seedy area. Since homosexuality was illegal until the late 60s and then only legal in private, if you were aged over 21 years, there has been an area surreptitious advertising for cruises. Some say that it is a great first lesbian area. The OgdenArms, then only a pub, was a prime meeting place. Now it is the Rembrandt, a hotel, and is the favorite place of the leather and tattoo guys.

If you want to pay homage to their roots, you should visit the Rembrandt, formerly Ogden Arms, along with Napoleon, New York, New York, Cruz 101 and The New Union, as the beginning of the gay scene as a homophobic police raids were quite common.

Now the police have a more tolerant attitude and Canal Street is booming, with bars,Clubs and restaurants, and thus on a par with London and Brighton. In fact, some might say, when it comes to clubbing, Manchester the number one place to celebrate. Some other notable bars are the Tribecca Bar and bed, where the downstairs restaurant is full sized beds, and vanilla Cyotes care for the lesbian audience, but not exclusively, Spirit, Queer and Taurus are all worth a visit.

Manchester gay credentials are further enhanced by its annual Pride celebration, which is one of thebest in Europe, and that a survey of Diva magazine found the Manchester Metropolitan University is the Gay Friendly University in the UK.

There are many gay friendly hotel on Canal Street District, along with the new apartment hotels, so it is easily visit from out of town does not mean that you will do much sleep in this bustling city means, but it makes a good place for a holiday.

Manchester has so much to offer with its rich cultural heritage,particularly in music. Despite the sound of the Beatles Liverpool, Manchester had The Hollies, Herman's Hermits and Freddy and the dreamers who were big on both sides of the Atlantic. Indeed, the list of bands and musicians who emerged from Manchester, long and glorious as The Smiths, Oasis, Elbow, Stone Roses, Joy Division / New Order, The Verve, Badly Drawn Boy, etc., etc..

There is also an annual Jazz Festival and the Hallé Orchestra and a thriving operaScene.

Among the many art galleries, The Lowry, a stunning building of glass and steel rises over the old docks, the work of local heroes LS Lowery shows together with other businesses catering for the fine and performing arts.

Theatre is also thriving, with many theaters show a wide range of pieces from the classics of the avant-garde.

Manchester has its own international airport and good road and rail connections, so it makes a good base if you want to visitLiverpool, the Lake District or Blackpool, which together with the likewise with some great gay club, has a huge beach, Blackpool Tower and some awesome roller coasters.
